I had knee surgery 3 months ago and still have considerable soreness. Should I be worried?

Question by mikeyj24: I had knee surgery 3 months ago and still have considerable soreness. Should I be worried?
I've recently tried to get back to becoming a little active, but I experience soreness in the course of and following exercise (which lasts for days). My surgery was an arthroscopic procedure to clean up a tear in my lateral meniscus. When my physician got in there, he also found Grade three chondromalacia patella (which was debrided) and he performed an ecscision of the medial plica. I started PT 2 weeks right after the surgery and went consistently for 2 months and was released soon after I got full range of motion back and full quad strength. In spite of all of this, I'm still experiencing a lot of soreness. Should I be concerned?

Given that it's your knee, you need to understand something: it's holding your Entire body weight on it. If your knee is sore right after a surgery, that's a sign it needs a small much more rest. But don't give it too a lot, or it won't be utilized to moving or sustaining any weight. Baby actions, fairly significantly literally and figuratively.

  1. My husband has knee surgery twice. He said that the pain lasted quite a while. Just give it time. Not too much time though before going back to a doctor.

  2. Ensure that you have good, weight relieving brace for the time being, it should be custom build.

  3. You should phone your surgeon and ask. It's probably expected but they would be the one to answer your question beyond a shadow of a doubt.
When I had similiar surgery,(repair torn meniscus, remove bone fragments and excision of lateral plicae) I was painfree sooner but I also began physical therapy three days after surgery so I believe that would have given me a headstart. Additionally, we all heal at different rates and even the slight difference in our surgeries could be significant. Did yours require more tugging and stretching than mine, for instance. When I had an ulnar nerve transposition( not arthroscopic surgery) I was warned by the surgeon that the post surgical tenderness could last for 18 months.
this is probably nothing to worry about but as you have a surgeon you may as well phone him and see what he has to say.
