Got the MRI report nowadays. I have mild patellar chondromalacia with evidence of fissuring over the apex and medial patellar facet. The patella, nonetheless, is typical in position. The quadriceps tendon, patellar ligament and patellar retinacula appears grossly intact. There is minimally increased fuid in the joint space.

Chondromalacia means the abnormal softening or degeneration of cartilage. Chondro- refers to cartilage although malacia (from the Greek malakia, softness) means softening. The back of my patella is wearing away.

Chondromalacia is fascinating in that it typically strikes young, otherwise healthy, athletic people. Ladies are more generally affected with chondromalacia. Precisely why this is the case is unknown, but it is thought to have to do with anatomical differences between men and girls, in which females encounter increased lateral forces on the patella.

Hoorah. I know what's wrong with it now for certain. Now for treatment ^_^
